The Leaves Are Falling: Fall 2018 First Round

So, the leaves are turning yellow and brown, the ground is going to be filled with leaves.

Go out and sweep the floor.

I mean, welcome back. I managed to pick up another show or two during the season because I found out that I have more time than I initially thought so the list expanded.

Now that I’m back to writing, let’s get the Fall stuff done and over with.

Irozuku Sekai no Ashita kara

My impressions aren’t that great on this one.

I am not used to listen to Ishihara Kaori’s voice in a gloomy character, she’s more of the cheery type, so it kind of sucks that she didn’t get to voice that.

The character designs isn’t my thing too, but I’m going to get used to this. Visually, it looks like P.A.Works is holding back, and have a slight Ghibli vibe going around.

Storywise, it is going extremely slow, too slow in fact. I’m placing my bets on this slow is gonna last for only 13 eps. But I could say this is my first episode, so I will hold back on the judgemental stuff and see how it goes next week.

Kishuku Gakkou no Juliet

This is an interesting one.

The story does give off some Korean/Taiwanese drama vibe for me. The story is moving up pretty nicely and I think this will be one of my favourites for the season.

Character designs couldn’t be any better. I really like how Liden Films does the designs. Animation is pretty much on par with the current era standards, so nothing to really say about that.

Kayano Ai voicing Juliet might be able to work out. The rest of the cast are great too. Can’t wait for more.

Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl-senpai no Yume wo Minai

Cute setting, cute costume and cute humans.

The first episode gave me a pretty lasting impression. They announced a movie for this so I won’t be expecting a pretty conclusive ending.

I really like how the chemistry between the main characters has already kind of peaked in just 10mins. It’s so mysterious, I love it.

The 2nd episode pretty much proved its worth and it is an absolute contender for AOTS.

Character designs are great. animations reminds me of KyoAni for some reason.

Voicing acting is already great. And I’m in love with the OP.

SSSS.GRIDMAN

Tsuburaya is now in the anime realm.

Trigger is always meeting expectations, the colors they used here is amazing, it looks even more vivid than Franxx. Combat scenes looks great as usual.

As for nostalgia, not really to be honest, it felt like the old Tsuburaya charm is sort of, gone. But times have changed so we have to move on.

Voice cast is pretty nice, despite the newbies taking the main roles.

Sword Art Online: Alicization

So a 40+min episode 1. 24mins of no-context preview of what is going to come during this one year long anime, and 24mins of actual episode one.

So far the story is moving at a decent pace, but I doubt this will continue. They have a year to cover Alicization, I’m going to expect a lot of milking during certain combat sequences.

I really don’t have much to say, ep 1 is just… hard to describe.

Music is pretty okay. Animations is pretty A-1 and voice cast is pretty okay, the new casts for the new characters seems okay so far. Kayano Ai as Alice is going to be a stretch for me.

Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken

The story is just slow… 2 episodes in and well, progressing nice and slow.

The main character before he turned into a slime did scare me, I have never seen a guy like him before. Then the sudden change of world, slime and then voice, did throw the momentum off for me.

But I would say, since they have 24 eps to do this show, they can take their time. 2 episodes in and I can’t really pinpoint whether I enjoy the show or not, I will see how it goes in future episodes.

Animations is pretty decent for 8-bit, music is okay. Voice cast is pretty minimal for now, so can’t judge yet.

Tokyo Ghoul:re 2

So, 120 chapters in 12 episodes. Watching this show is just pretty much witnessing an avalanche.

First episode is pretty slow, and the timeskip is pretty wide. I really can’t tell how are they going to end this story nice.

Music not as great as S1, but TK is back so I will still accept it.

Tonari no Kyuuketsuki-san

So, basically this is Kiniro Mosaic and Slow Start, but with a vampire.

I don’t think I will enjoy this, the misleading loli trend has been pretty much dropping since Hello Kiniro Mosaic, and I would say this one is pretty much the same.

Ep 1 is just predictable plot after predictable plot, I really think I might drop this.

Cast list is okay, music also decent.

Uchi no Maid ga Uzasugiru

I’m in love, this show is actually great right off the bat.

The story is straight up goofy and hilarious. The 6-pack is far too corny. Enjoyed every minute of it, pretty much the only show that managed to do that for this season.

Dogakobo has added decent amount of keyframes to bolster the comedy up to another level. I can’t wait for more.

Voice cast is pretty darn solid. Numakura Manami is just great for her role. Music is also pretty nicely done.

Yagate Kimi ni Naru

Troyca visuals never cease to amaze me. I really like the Live2D-esque background animations mixing with static 2D characters, it’s pleasant.

The pacing is pretty slow, it’s taking it’s time to work itself out. Like a pot of nice tea, taking its time to brew.

Kotobuki Minako’s voice here is just pleasant to listen to, this series is pretty much a therapeutic show overall.

I really can’t wait for more, Troyca’s visuals is just great. I really love the character designs and the slight tint they picked, giving off a constant dusk feel.

CONCEPTION

I picked this one up after reading a synopsis and was kind of intrigued.

The story is pretty much on full heat in just one episode, which kinds of surprises me. Pacing is at a decent speed, but the acceleration is just shocking. I think I have never seen such an anime that goes full swing in just one ep. But the pacing doesn’t lead me to a dead end, I find myself able to keep up with it.

Gonzo visuals is rather okay, character designs are pretty decent. Colors isn’t really much.

I kind of lowkey picked up the show for Kato Emiri, but luckily I didn’t pick up the show to be disappointed. It has a bit of potential, but now let’s see how things goes.

Ore ga Suki nano wa Imouto dakedo Imouto ja Nai

This one… has the potential to replace Oreimo to be honest…

The character design looks slightly different from the PV, so I got scammed? Well the animation quality as a whole is pretty inconsistent, which is unsurprising from NAZ. I think everything might be fixed with the BD release.

The story pacing for one ep is pretty okay, the buildup is nice enough to go full swing with the story. I think this might be my favourite imouto show to officially replace Oreimo.

Cast list is pretty decent. With some familiar people from Hajimete no Gal. Can’t wait for more, the brocon is in full swing already…

That’s pretty much it for now, so far Fall in their first week is a mixed bag, Summer first week was better. But it’s still too early to judge.

I will be watching Boku no Hero Academia movie later on, so yay me. Been working my ass off for the past week, I need a catch a break. I will be enjoying my Friday…

Reviews are planned, piled up and ready to be written down, so expect more posts in the coming days.

As for the Fall posts, I will see you guys next week around this time frame.

  1. I can’t agree more with you on Bunny Girl Senpai. The anime with the strangest title ever, but so far for me the best anime that I have seen this entire season 😊😊 Hope this anime is going to remain as good as it is right now. 😄
