Oh look, the Moon is Beautiful Tonight: Tsuki ga Kirei

Hey all, no Index II today, because I just realized that I haven’t completed it, so I will put that review and the comparison post to a later date.

Original production anime. 12 eps.

Why I really love this show? This is a serious no-bullshit, zero-fanservice romance show that the anime industry lacked for decades.

Storyline is smooth. Pacing might be slow, but it’s actually part of the formula. With excellent buildup and executing at the right moments really hits the spot. Well, actually many of the moments in the show that I can relate to made the show a whole lot better for me. Not much climax involved, but the smooth and relatable storyline made it up for its lack of high moments. Ending was a pretty sweet touch, making me sad to see it go. Overall, pretty great show with relatable moments and hitting the right spots for execution nearly all the time. I really wish more animes like this will be made.

Animations by feel. Unique artwork I must say. Color palettes are rather bland but it’s fitting for such a show. Character designs works great too. Lacking in cuteness is not an important factor.

Music is just splendid. OP is great, ED brings out feelings. The insert songs did hit the spot too. All sung by Toyama Nao, bringing another side to her singing abilities. BGMs were great too.

Cast list is pretty awesome. Kohara Konomi, Chiba Shoya, Tamaru Atsushi, Murakawa Rie, Chisuga Haruka, Ishii Mark, Shiraishi Haruka, Toyama Nao, Inoue Kikuko, Saito Chiwa, Oka Kazuo, Iwata Mitsuo. A whole lot bunch of rookies, but all of them did excellent jobs at their roles.

Story: 9/10

Art: 8/10

Music: 9/10

VAs: 8.5/10

Highly recommended, if you like romance. If not, just don’t bother.
