Mecha and Shoujo meets again: Cross Ange: Tenshi to Ryuu no Rondo

Heyo, time to write a little bit of mecha.

An anime original. Anime aired for 25eps.

I was a bit skeptical about the show at first, because of its original plot, and the rather generic setting of girls piloting mechas. The story was rather draggy and confusing at first. But being patient paid off after around 10 eps where things starts to make sense and story turns entertaining. Plot twists are there, but wasn’t all surprising or dramatic. It was still unpredictable though. The climax is pretty decent, there was a decent amount of escalation. The ending was pretty nicely wrapped, pretty sweet conclusion. 25 ep length seems just right, they managed to pace the story rather nicely. Overall, even though the setting and concept can be rather overused, but the show managed to make it up for its rather volatile plot, turning the tables and saving the show. I enjoyed it.

Animations by Sunrise. The character designs has a pinch of Gundam Seed, the art is more like recent Xebec’s works, which I don’t really like. They did not do the hand drawn mechas like in their Gundam series and use the conventional 3DCGI instead. Combat scenes were great. It’s decent.

Music is great. ED1 was the best out of all the OPs and EDs. BGMs were great too.

The cast list is pretty nice. Mizuki Nana, Kitamura Eri, Tamura Yukari, Kuwashima Houko, Ishihara Kaori, Koshimizu Ami, Ogura Yui, Honda Takako, Yukana, Fuchigami Mai, Toyoguchi Megumi, Tamagawa Sakiko, Neya Michiko, Tsuji Ayumi, Chihara Minori, Miyano Mamoru, Toyama Nao, Hayama Ikumi, Ueda Reina, Hayashibara Megumi, Toriumi Kosuke, Uesaka Sumire, Uchiyama Yumi, Fujii Yukiyo, Kikuchi Kokoro, Ise Mariya, Horie Yui, Asumi Kana, Watanabe Akeno, Nakahara Mai, Mitsuishi Kotono, Seki Toshihiko. Big list, and pretty legit. I love them all, they did their jobs well.

Score:

Story: 8/10

Art: 7/10

Music: 7/10

VAs: 9/10

Recommended, but to be honest, I don’t know who to recommend. Some like it, some don’t. Ahhh its hard…
