The Prelude of the Ultimate Disaster: Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha A’s

Heyo, Day 2 of Nanoha Week, kinda obvious on what we are covering.

Airing format same as the first. 13eps with a remake movie that runs for 150mins. The movie is slightly longer this time. I watched the bluray versions for both.

Story pretty much continues wherever we were left off from the first season, with new comrades and also tougher enemies. The drama picks up pace as early as the 2nd episode where things starts to get awry with the new and tougher enemies. This lead to an intense feel of desperation that runs through my veins. I like how the drama can affect my emotions while watching the show. Season 1 did not have this intense atmosphere before. This season proved to be my most favourite season to date with the fantastic and incredibly dark storytelling that manages to supersede the first, its a very nice blend. I like it. The addition of German commands and spells while Nanoha and Fate with their English ones,  Kusakawa Keizo manages to exceed Akiyuki’s direction with the daring storylines. Ending also manages to be even more emotional and also pretty sweet too. Overall, this storyline picked up the pace and affirmed Nanoha’s status of a very dark side of Mahou Shoujos.

Movie is pretty much like the first. A remake but with a parallel twist. The change is even more drastic and obvious because of the change they did on the first movie has affected how the story pans out for this one. The change is welcome and even though they made it look lighthearted on normal situations, but when things get sketchy, it can get pretty dark and intense, probably exceeding the anime. 150mins may seemed long, but it’s pretty necessary, the story didn’t feel as condensed as the first and they have more room to edit the story even more.

Animations by Seven Arcs again. The anime was pretty well done itself, they retained the dark atmosphere and ambience of the first while making the movie look slightly brighter.

Music is ok itself. BGMs were well composed, but I expected better for the OPs and EDs. The movie brought whatever was from the anime.

Cast list is pretty much the same but with additional casts. Yuzuki Ryoka, Shimizu Kaori, Sanada Asami, Ueda Kana, Ichijo Kazuya, Sakata Kayo, Nakata Jouji, Sugita Tomokazu, Sakuma Kumi, Asano Masami, Kobayashi Sanae, Yukana. The additional cast did expand a lot but they did excellent jobs in their roles.

Score: Anime | Movie

Story: 8/10 | 8.5/10

Art: 7.5/10 | 8/10

Music: 8/10

VAs: 8.5/10

Highly recommended for people who watched the first season to continue onto this season, you will not regret it.

Day 3 will be StrikerS. See you tomorrow.
