Yo… A bit late today because of my work earlier, so tired, but I still have to write this.
WWW.Working and Working!! are similar series, but except that WWW is a spin-off from the main series, with entirely new characters. Both are manga-sourced, Working!! ended with 13 volumes but WWW is still ongoing. The main series gets 3 anime seasons of 13eps with extra 1 special ep to do the ending, covering pretty much the entire manga. WWW.Working!! gets only 1 season of 13eps so far and I sincerely wish for more.
Let’s start with the main course first.
See what I did there?
Back when I first watched this, I expected a pretty laid-back slice-of-life because from how I judge the cover, it looks like a normal family restaurant job. But it wasn’t. After watching the first ep, I was immediately glued and watched the entire of season 1 in just 2 days. Concept and setting can be pretty deceiving. It may seem normal, but the filling inside the bun is incredibly sweet. Storyline never fails to entertain me. Season 1 and 2 are pretty hyper but S3 turns from comedy to slightly serious because of it being the end of the show. Comedy is always high, almost until you have no time to recover your breathing. Character development is pretty high, but S3 has the most, because of romance blooming. The interactions between characters are a lot. When 2 or more weird personalities talk to one another, the mess is just incredibly entertaining. The ending for S3 is pretty unsatisfying, even with the extra special ep. I expected a sweeter wrap-up, but ended up with some questions unanswered. Maybe I expected too much? Overall, I really enjoyed this one, probably one of the best restaurant-themed shows.
A-1 Pictures doing everything. The 1st 2 seasons were identical. It looked pretty decent and normal. But S3 is the game changer, even though they kept the character design, the colors and clarity got a lot more refined. Its rare to see A-1 doing something so good on slice-of-life shows.
Music is another selling point. All the 3 OPs and EDs were nice because of their lively nature. BGMs were composed well too.
VAs is a pretty nice list. Asumi Kana, Fujita Saki, Kitamura Eri, Fukuyama Jun, Watanabe Kumiko, Ono Daisuke, Kamiya Hiroshi, Hirohashi Ryo, Nakata Jouji, Kawasa Akiko, Shiraishi Ryoko, Hikasa Yoko, Ito Shizuka, Saito Momoko, Orikasa Ai, Otsuka Hochu, Suzuki Masami, Iwao Junko, Nakamura Yuichi, Tomatsu Haruka, Hino Satoshi, Yusa Koji. They did their jobs well, I don’t know who to praise, I think I will praise all. The drama CD cast were different, and I personally felt some of them fit better than the anime, but well…
The side dish.
As a spin-off, I pretty much treat this show as a new show. With all new characters, it feels fresh already on the first episode. The romance also blooms pretty quickly too. Concept and setting may be about the same, but the storyline feels fresh. It’s more laidback for me, unlike the hyper main series. The same old Working feel pretty much retains, but with more romance and cheese. Due to the added cheese, character development is pretty high. Interactions can be insanely cute too. I like this twist. The comedy is high here because of a very dense heroine, I actually facepalmed more than I laughed. Ending left me hanging, I want more. Overall, I like the spin-off than the main, maybe it’s just me.
Animations are done by A-1 again. The standards dropped a bit, it doesn’t feel as clear as S3, but character design gets revised, but I like this one more than the main series.
Music is a drop. OP doesn’t feel as lively as the main, but it’s still fine. EDs was nice tho. BGMs were pretty much the same.
VAs is pretty nice, some of them were recurring cast from the main series. Tomatsu Haruka, Nakamura Yuichi, Hikasa Yoko, Mizuki Nana, Uchiyama Koki, Amamiya Sora, Ono Kensho, Suwa Ayaka, Shimono Hiro, Hosoya Yoshimasa, Toriumi Kosuke, Asakura Momo, Ozawa Ari, Sonozaki Mie, Okitsu Kazuyuki, Saito Soma, Lynn. They retained the drama CD casts with the exception of Taneda Risa, due to her hiatus. She would have done a better job to be honest, but we have to make do with Mizuki Nana. I like this cast more than the main series.
