The Mirror Plays: Tomoyo After ~It’s a Wonderful Life~

Hey hey!

I finally completed the game just now. And sadly, I played the all ages version, so yeah… for obvious safety reasons. This game serves as an sequel to Tomoyo’s route from the main Clannad game.

I completed the game in 12 hours. Gotten to the true ending. It was deep…

Storyline was great, this story made me laugh for a lot of times. I loved Tomoyo so this game showed me a whole new side of her totally. She is in fact, very feminine, I have underestimated her. The story is unexpectedly long, I thought I can finish this one in half a day because of its file size being a bit small. I played and played until I thought it will end after sending Tomo away, but things get lengthier until he gets into a coma and all. And by the time I finished playing, it was already past midnight. So don’t worry, even if it’s only Tomoyo, but her storyline was so detailed that we got some slight character arcs here and there. The ending was deep, but I was expecting even deeper shit. I still love the ending, it’s definitely… a wonderful life.

I played the latest English ver, but the resolution is still 800×600 upscaled. Even though its upscaled, but its still quite crystal clear. The character design strikes some nostalgia in me and the colors are so vivid.  Its a 2005 VN, so don’t expect any complex VN graphic stuff from Nekopara in this one.

Music will always be their selling point due to Lia’s vocals and Jun’s awesome composition. The OP and ED gave a serious atmosphere, but the BGMs does their job in every atmosphere and situation.

VAs is slightly different from the original cast. Nakamura Yuichi replaces Ito Kentaro as Tomoya, Tanaka Ryoko takes over Kuwashima Houko as Tomoyo, Suzuki Keiko voices Kanako and Takafumi, Sasaki Akari voices Tomo, Tani Shunsuke voices Tomoya’s complcated dad, Asaki Soyo as Tomo’s real mom. I was hoping for Houko to voice Tomoyo, but Ryoko did an excellent job too, so I will accept it. Nakamura Yuuichi never fails to bring out the comedy in his lines.

Score:

Story: 8.5/10

Art: 8/10

Music: 9.5/10

VAs: 9/10

Highly recommended. It cost like only half of Clannad but you get more than half of the feels from Clannad, so totally worth it.

My next review will either be Nekopara or Clannad or even Neptunia, so stay tuned.

  1. A great post and review. Clannad will always be my favorite series. I heard a little bit about this side story but not much about it. This review made me want to check it out. I just need more money and to start using my Steam again. A story about Tomoyo sounds enjoyable. I wish they made an anime of her story.
