An anime original. Anime lasted for 12 eps, 8 OVAs and 1 movie. And guess what I watched them all already. WAHAHA. Yoshida Reiko is on a roll with such high school girls using vehicles themed shows nowadays.
Will split into different parts for this one because the franchise is quite huge actually.
The anime kicked off pretty blandly, and then escalates into a pretty sweet climax, because it doesn’t really involve people’s lives, its pretty much all about having fun while winning. Story is pretty lighthearted with quite a lot of random characters with random comedy that wil sometimes knock you off. Character development is pretty ok, not much really, but it doesn’t really need development. 12eps felt pretty much just right. Not too short, not too draggy, just right. I don’t really need a sequel, but actually I need a prequel, I wanna know the things happened before the main series. Overal, its enjoyable, not boring at all, but it needs more plot twists and escalation.
The OVAs is A LOT. 7OVAs from the main series and 1 OVA from the movie. They all didn’t really bring much, just more practice and more training with some slight situations. The last OVA does entertained me a bit because of the cuteness. Overall, nothing much, it does serve as a sequel but nothing much is brought to the table.
The movie now, just watched it this morning, it was 2 hour long but it felt even longer than that for some weird reason. The story really escalates more now, because its a do-or-lose-your-school-for-reals situation and they are fighting against people who are from universities. The sweet things is that the rest of the high schools who once fought against them decided to fight with them, otherwise, its a 30 vs 8 situation. Its really enjoyable, even tho its a long 2 hour movie.
Animations by Actas, quite a really underrated studio, the anime was their first work and I have to say it feels really nicely done. The transition between 2D handdrawn and 3DCGI is blended pretty near perfectly, even better than A-1 and 8-Bit. The movie got a slightly better quality like more frames are rendered and the blending of 3D and 2D is even better now. Character designs are excellent, they looked moe for me.
Music is ok. But I can’t feel both the OP and ED, I feel the BGMs instead. The BGMs really fitted the theme of this show nicely.
VAs is a really long list of both veterans and newbies. Fuchigami Mai, Kayano Ai, Ozaki Mami, Iguchi Yuka, Sendai Eri, Yoshioka Maya, Hirano Aya, Akesaka Satomi, Kitamura Eri, Izawa Shiori, Kanemoto Hisako, Kikuchi Mika, Fukuen Misato, Kawasumi Ayako, Takahashi Mikako, Komatsu Mikako, Yamamoto Nozomi, Ise Mariya, Hayama Ikumi, Tanaka Rie, Uesaka Sumire, Ishihara Mai, Nakamura Sakura, Fujimura Ayumi, Noto Mamiko, Taketatsu Ayana, Seto Asami, Takamori Natsumi, Nakahara Mai, Yonezawa Madoka, Hayami Saori, Nabatame Hitomi, Ueda Kana, Yukino Satsuki. Whew long list. They had so many people but there is still multiple roles for some VAs. But all of them did their job excellently, in fact many of the VAs here used different voices this time, sometimes I cannot even identify them.
Don’t exactly have a best girl here because there is too many of them to remember and none of them pretty much caught my attention.
Story: 8.5/10 (anime), 8/10 (OVA 1-7), 8.5/10 (OVA 8), 9/10 (movie)
Art: 8/10 (Anime, OVAs), 8.5/10 (movie)
VAs: 8/10 (anime, OVA 1-7), 8.5/10 (movie, OVA8)
Highly recommended if you like Kancolle, Arpeggio of Blue Steel, Haifuri, or any other shows that involved high school students doing things they shouldn’t at their age.
More posts coming.
