Kancolle but with proper ships and crew: Arpeggio of Blue Steel

Good evening! Trying to catch up with my post writing, I still have lots to do after this.

Originated from a manga. 12 volumes and stil ongoing. Anime lasted for 12 eps with 2 movies. Kishi Seiji directing, this should be good. This has more intense naval warfare than Kancolle, thats for sure. The first movie is just a recap with some new footage, you can just skip that for the second one.

Storyline already picks up at the first ep and been pretty much climaxed throughout the series. The show has slight comedy but its been more concentrated on the combat sequences. Character development is well done, it does show a lot of progress. Character personalities does show some depth too. Ending felt a bit heavy but it does not feel like a cliffhanger or a wrap up. 12eps felt pretty short, as the pacing was pretty fast as they try to squeeze as much story into the 1 cour show as much as possible. Its a pretty fast-paced warfare show, but wasn’t really action-packed.

The movie however, was well done, for an anime movie original plot. The story was better than the anime, its more action-packed, slightly more comedy and has more plot twists now. Its 1hr 45mins, and it felt pretty long for some reason. The pacing here has definitely slowed down, its like they are taking their time to tell the story. New characters emerged which means more character developments. The ending felt a lot more heavier than the anime, and also serves as a proper wrap up from the anime. Overall, this series did bring its joys and tragedy, but the show could have gone heavier.

Animations by Sanzigen. And here comes the pure 3DCGI. Its pretty ok but the character designs can take quite a lot of time to get used to. Even tho its 3DCGI the frames isn’t exactly fluid, it feels and looks jerky at times. Otherwise the quality felt pretty legit and was well-rendered.

Music is nice. OP is nice, ED was good. BGMs were well composed too.

OP TV ver

OP Full ver

ED Full ver

The ED is damn good.

VAs is pretty nice list. Okitsu Kazuyuki, Fuchigami Mai, Miyashita Eiji, Tsuda Minami, Toyama Nao, Fujita Saki, Numakura Manami, Okiayu Ryotaro, Nakahara Mai, Yukana, Yamamura Hibiku, Uchiyama Yumi, M.A.O, MAKO, Hidaka Rina, Yamamoto Nozomi, Fukuhara Ayaka, Sato Satomi, Mimori Suzuko, Igarashi Hiromi, Nakata Jouji, Kugimiya Rie. All of them well done.

Best shipgirl? Maybe Haruna. Maybe, she’s the only shipgirl who caught my eye so far.

Score:

Story: 8/10 (anime), 9/10 (Movie)

Art: 7.5/10

Music: 8/10

VAs: 8/10 (anime), 9/10 (movie)

Recommended for people who likes the navy and wished that such shipgirls exist while you are in service. Just kidding. Its a really nice show with the awesome ability to do such an excellent positive to negative feels transition.
