Good Afternoon~~~! This season was a long draggy and dry one, finally it ended… Its a very horrible season.
Shoujo-tachi wa Kyoya wa Mezasu
This one is seriously hyped for nothing. This goes the same way as Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai and Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete. No climax, even if it has one, its pretty weak to feel it. The story picks up nicely and then it just goes down and turns bland. Awesome cast tho. The animation quality felt nice at first, then slowly turn bland too, Ro-Kyu-Bu was so much better than this. Character design is pretty well done. Best gurl? Cant find one, all of them were pretty…. decent. Excellent OP, pretty ok ED. Overall, time wasted watching this
At first I thought this one was a Hibike! Euphonium clone, but was thrown off my chair with the amount of “mysteries” in this show. I really hope they concentrated more on being a proper symponic band than solving mysteries all the time, it felt really random as the band expands without any explaination. It felt fresh at first, with Chika’s captivating character design and Sarah Emi Bridcutt doing the voice work, but slowly, I cant help it by feeling a bit bland because of its illogical storyline and “WTF” moments here and there. The ending felt VERY cliffhanger-ish to somewhat get the viewers to feel for a second season, not a very pleasant feeling. Im still against the Haruta liking Kusakabe-sensei shit, this part brought the show down a lot for me. The only thing P.A.Works got it right was the character design, but hey, they always did pretty nice designs. Im very surprised that Yoshida Reiko wrote this script, im very disappointed. Ok OP and so-so ED. Overall, time waster again. Poor Sarah Emi Bridcutt, she did a wonderful job voicing Chika, but the show’s flaws overlapped her perfection. Best gurl Chika always.
Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!
One of the strong shows this season. Storyline well-plotted, slight episodic feel but it was fine. Laughing at pretty much everything. The only flaw was Studio Deen, the quality meme makes a comeback. The illustrations of the LN was SO MUCH better than the anime. Their face is seriously distorted but they can pull off weird facial expressions pretty easily. The animation quality was so inconsistent making it feel like a VERY budget project. But at least the “EXPLOSION!!!” part was animated nicely. Excellent OP, ok ED. Cast was pretty decent, but I thought of someone being a better candidate to voice Aqua. Overall, it was a very fun ride, but could have been better, 10 eps is extremely short, but luckily they didnt cram the plotlines. Hopefully they fix the quality in the 2nd season, but I doubt so, they only fix them for the BDs. Best gurl Megumin~~~~
Boku Dake ga Inai Machi / Erased
Another strong one. This one managed to bring the manga to its full potential. Faith in Ito Tomohiko restored. The plot twists were so on point and alway strikes hard. This is how you make a mystery show, P.A.Works, yes you. A-1 dd pretty decent work with the animations and character designs. The cast is pretty ok. Both the adult and child ver of Satoru are both newbies so I didnt really expect much from them, but they did a pretty well done, but the adult ver sounded like a loser in life so it suited Satoru at least for the first half, he should have sounded brighter at the 2nd part instead, since his life has changed completely. Thank god Satoru didnt end up with Kayo and with Airi instead, she’s so much better.
The ending gave me a bit of feels as he still have feelings for Airi… A pretty nice wrap up for me at least. Excellent OP, even though its already near a decade old but the new instrumentals does make it feel fresh again, pretty decent ED. Overall, well made show all around, that “Erased Satoru” ver of the OP does throw me off a bit, pretty well done. Airi best gurl, Akasaki Chinatsu is starting to strike my heart.
Utawarerumono: Itsuwari no Kamen
Another strong one but went down the drain with that ending. What happens to Kuon from now on?! What is going on with Haku being Oshutoru?! So many goddamn questions left unanswered in this show that it felt like its only 24 eps instead of 25. I already got a gut feeling at ep 20 that this show will end pretty abruptly, and i was right. Awesome cast, awesome music, awesome animation quality, but needs to put more on the writing. Kuon will always have a place in my heart.
Screw this show. Even planned for a sequel? How about no. Surprised at how Sanzigen called this their “Anniversary” show, its not even close to what the other studio offers for their anniversaries. The only thing they invest a lot on the CGIs that they forget how to tell a proper story without jumping plotlines here and there. Cast was ok, but voices were pretty underwhelming. Music is great, epic OP. Overall, hope the sales can kill off the sequel.
Musaigen no Phantom World
I cant help it, I have to. I love her ass a lot, KyoAni’s visual can be useful sometimes.
I dont exactly hate or love this show, what is bringing me to watch this show is pretty much the visuals and their legit combat scenes. One habit they never change is that they tend to dim the backlight during combat scenes involving bright colors, making it NEAR impossible to watch this show in the day. Otherwise, cast was good, music was pretty legit, story was pretty nice and the character design yet again proves KyoAni’s abilities. I hope they will make more of this and hopefully erm…
slurp Enigma makes a comeback.
Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm
Not bad, but still doesnt change the fact that I hate Gonzo. The show was ok, the plot, theme and setting were just fine, but everything goes downhill as plot twists can be seen around the corner, slowly can be seen from room to room. The visual is pretty ok, does have some inconsistencies but still managable. The cast did a good job, the music is excellent and the character designs were pretty legit. Could have been better tho.
The last ep doesnt feel like one, but maybe its because its episodic. Story can be pretty nonsensical, but they teach a really good lesson about Japan snacks and sweets. I dont mind another season of this, because Saya~ Nice music, excellent yet simple cast, unique yet matching character designs, quality is pretty well done.
This one behaved like how they released Angel Beats OVA. The rewind the time back to when Yuu just met Tomori. The comedy is there but the ep ended pretty abruptly, now I cant let this show die down anymore.
The ones I dropped.
Luck and Logic
Because Bushiroad, yeah, thats why I keep avoiding their shows. Hopefully S2 gets cancelled.
The ones that will go on for another season
Its pretty flat right now, mostly slice-of-life as both parties wont progress it furthur, but its still very enjoyable to watch. They might as well made a 13eps instead of dragging it so long and air like only 15mins per ep.
Summary of how I feel for this season
P.A.Works like to pick up materials that are EXTREMELY hard to adapt even with a proper scriptwriter. They also like to multitask plotlines even tho they are terrible at it. They also like to monkey-see, monkey-do, for example, having legit character designs challenging KyoAni, and having an anniversary work just nice after Sanzigen’s, and picking up material that are near impossible to adapt, like Shaft.
Sanzigen cant make a proper original material, even tho they are blabbering about it being their anniversary work.
KyoAni can make proper “plots” all this time, finally proving their worth in the ecchi industry.
Winter 2016 is a VERY bad start for this year, proving by the number of shows I watched this season compared to other seasons. With all the hyped shows be airing in Summer, my mood for Spring I would say, I cant really be bothered, but I will still watch the shows.
