Quite a cute VN adaptation: Shuffle!

Good morning~ Decided to do a sweet little review for the morning.

This is actually from a VN, its 11 years old but i had expanded into a lot of editions and the latest edition, the Essence+ is 6 years old, the Essence+ adds new scenes as well as new characters and routes,. So you can actually guess that its actually the 4:3 format type of VN. The anime had 2 seasons, a 24eps and a 12eps. Since i played the original VN also, so imma do both. This VN is actually a start of a new francise, there are 3 more sequels after this,  Tick! Tack!, Really? Really!, Shuffle! Love Rainbow. All of them are all very nice to play and i love them all, there is also a lot of new characters added which leads to new routes and endings. They retained the character design and gameplay format so you wont feel alienated while playing the new games. Still based Sia or Kaede.

Visual Novel

The story is nice, its not as long and naggy as Grisaia. Its short and sweet, and its kinda easy to tell which route you gonna end up. I played them all, including the hard-to-get Primula. The VN doesnt have a bad or good or normal end, there is only one ending for each character, and its definitely the good end. As for all the route endings, the most feels goes to Kaede, most meaningful goes to Asa, most controvesial goes to Sia or Primula. The best ending gotta be Sia, i even love her a lot. Kaede is a close second. The lighthearted feel is very nice but when its gets serious, its gets seriously heavy and all the feels just keeps coming, no mercy.

Artwork is pretty well done, in fact the character design is splendid. Since its a pretty old VN, so do not expect motions that current VNs offer. Colors might be a bit bland, but overall its all right.

Music are pretty decent and lighthearted, and when it gets heavy, the music changes to adapt to the situation, and its very effective.

Will combine both seasons into one.

The story goes to the Asa route, but they kinda slightly rewrote it. The ride was smooth and nice, but i just dont like the route they chose and also the way they wrote it. The ending was nicely wrapped, but its just me that i dont like the route they chose and i dont like them to be a couple. There is feels and lighthearting in-between. But when it gets heavy, the feels comes, but not as hard as what the VN offer. The ending is pretty well wrapped but it does leave some questions unanswered, overall 24 eps well done, they managed to pace the story pretty well.

Then 2nd season came, thought it was a sequel, but actually its a prequel season, but it isnt that bad, since i wanna know how it all started. The 12 eps is splitted to different character arcs then the last ep felt like a fanservice-like OVA ep. Overall its nice, kinda answer some questions, but still, unanswered are still a few,

Art is done by Asread, the only thing relevant in their portfolio is their cooperation with AIC Spirits for Ga-rei. But the character design is unique in their own way and it feels kinda good. Colors and frames can be improved for a 2008-2009 anime. But overall its cute and nice to watch.

Music is pretty well done, OP1 and ED1 gives a off a serious note. While season 2 had a lot of music so its pretty hard to judge for me.

VAs is a list of veterans and also pretty indie VAs. Sugita Tomokazu, Goto Yuko, Ito Miki, Hitomi, Aoki Sayaka, Inoue Miki, Yuria, Tanaka Ryoko. All of them did their job well so nothing much to really comment about.

Visual Novel

Story: 8/10 (Kaede), 5/10 (Asa), 8/10 (Sia), 7.5/10 (Nerine), 7/10 (Primula)

Art: 7/10

Music: 7/10

VAs: 8/10

Story: 7/10 (S1), 8/10 (S2)

Art: 8/10

Music: 8/10 (S1), 8.5/10 (S2)

Recommended for casual watchers and best to play the VN to really get the background behind the anime.

Might post another one later…
