I deleted the old Nourin review for this one. Imma improve over that, making this a so-called v2 release of the review. This is my first time combining 3 reviews into one… should be pretty lengthy i guess.
How are they similar?
1. All of them are from Silver Link
2. All of them have the same director (Onuma Shin)
3. Rokujouma and Nourin have 1 season of 12 eps with no OVAs so far
4. All of them are pretty much are RomCom with harem, without the feel of it being generic
5. Excellent artworks
6. All of them originated from LN
7. Rokujouma and Baka Test involves a bit of combat also…
8. Rokujouma and Baka Test both have Taketatsu Ayana and Suzuki Tatsuhisa in it.
Sounds like nothing much, but again you can feel their similarities when you watch them all.
Rokujouma no Shinryakusha
I really love this series… One of the best in Silver Link’s portfolio.
The story is about a guy named Satomi Kotaro, who rented in a small apartment, the size of 6 tatami mats, at a very low price, fulfilling his dream of living alone. But unfortunately, a ghost, a mahou shoujo, an “Earth Person”, an alien
all female of course suddenly popped out and all of them wants the room for their own needs or purposes. Here’s a rundown:
- The ghost wants it because she lived there for years and she wants them to get out of the apartment. Her name is Higashihongan Sanae.
- The mahou shoujo claims that the room has an enormous amount of magic energy and she needs the room to protect it from evil beings. She is rather pitiful as no one believes her about her being a mahou shoujo, instead calling her a cosplayer. Even though she used a lot of spells around them but they still didnt notice and continue calling her a cosplayer. Her name is Nijino Yurika.
- The “Earth Person” wants to build a temple there to gather enough power to dominate the world. The Earth People moved underground centuries ago and they have oracles and are also spellmasters. She has 2 battle drones with her called Karama and Korama. Her name is Kurano Kiriha.
- The alien’s objective is to capture the room as well as subduing Kotaro to be her servant, to prove her worth for the throne in her planet. She has a lot of advanced weaponry in her arsenal like battle armors, spaceships, pulse and beam cannons. She also have also have a servant named Ruthkhania Nye Pardomshiha, aka Ruth. Her full name is Theiamillis Gre Fortorthe, aka Tulip.
How did the author make such unique and long names… i wonder…
Then they start their “war” after the Corona Convention started by the landlady, Kasagi Shizuka, who went to the same high school as Kotaro. The war includes old maids then slowly as they turned bored it goes into competitions. They used points system to do their scoring.
Messy but a lot of fun watching them, as it has a bit of slice of life included.
The storyline is awesome, ride is stable and consistent and also the gags are pretty legit, but sometimes it goes out of control. Quite a lot of action packed inside also. Even tho its only 12 eps, but they managed to do every single character arc perfectly, without the feel of it being rushed or sloppily made. All of them are wrapped pretty perfectly, but honestly, it feels short and legitly need a season 2. Thankfully the fanservice isnt overly excessive and its kept under moderation, so it doesnt ruin the show. The ending is pretty good, doesnt leave much questions unanswered, so i wont feel the emptiness everytime a show ends.
Art is done by Silver Link, quality is amazing, especially the combat scenes, comparable to Fate Kaleid, but still Fate Kaleid is better. The character designs are cute and lovely and also the colors are perfectly well used and vivid. Backgrounds are pretty sharp. Love it a lot, well, it is Silver Link.
Music is also pretty well done. The OP is addictive and the ED seems pretty out of place, but it still feels pretty awesome. BGMs are also boosting the comedy effects of the show. All sang by the VAs of the show.
VAs are pretty newbie oriented, the newbies include Suzuki Eri, Omori Nichika, Tazawa Masumi, Naganawa Maria, all of them did an excellent job at it. There are also senpais which includes, Hayami Saori, Nakamura Yuichi, Takamoto Megumi, Yuki Aoi, Taketatsu Ayana, Suzuki Tatsuhisa and Suzaki Aya.
at this point she is already pretty senior compare to the juniors. All of them didnt disappoint.
Best gurl? Definitely Yurika. Ruth a second.
This will be a ver 2. Will be better than ver 1 i hope.
Its about a fanboy, Hata Kosaku, shocked by the news of his favourite idol, Kusakabe Yuka’s retirement. But after a heavy depression, he was really surprised by her transfer to his agriculture-oriented high school, but under the name of Kinoshita Ringo instead. And thats how his life brighten ups and a start of a new chapter.
Storyline is pretty legit also for this one. The ride is pretty epic, consistent. There isnt any arcs going on so its not so episodic. And also it kinda teaches you a bit of agriculture and chemistry and biology, adding a bit of educational elements with a pinch of fanservice. The fanservice is heavier than Rokujouma but it doesnt ruin the show. The story slowly turn into a slightly serious one near the end of the series, but the ending i would say the worst out of the three, has quite a lot of questions left unanswered and this needs a season 2 to get it all done. Well at least make an OVA if no season 2 planned, but most probably will be quite fanservicey…
Art is again by Silver Link, pretty well done again, backgrounds are all pretty detailed and the character design is unique this time, the pupils of the eyes are shades of lines instead of a solid color. The colors has a bit of oversaturation sometimes but its isnt that heavy like NGNL, and is also very vivid. Animation are crisp and sharp.
Music is another excellent point, the OP and ED both are lively and addictive. All are sang by VAs of the show. BGMs also boosted the comedic effects.
VAs is a pretty legit list this time. Asanuma Shintaro, HanaKana, Tamura Yukarin, Hatano Wataru, Inoue Marina, Saito Chiwa, Sugita Tomokazu. All of them did excellent jobs at it.
Besto gurl? All of them equalize due to their unique points and flaws.
Baka to Test to Shokanjuu
The most senior out of the three, also the lengthiest, 2 seasons of 13 eps with an OVA. At that point of time, it was only Silver Link’s 2nd and 3rd anime, but the amount of quality is already above most well-established studios.
This story is about a guy Yoshii Akihisa, who is a complete idiot, attends a school where grades means everything, including the environments and conditions to study in. The best class get all the state-of-the-art stuff with a snack and drinks bar and A/C, while the worst class gets to sit on the floor with tatami mats, poor cushions and stool-like tables in a very dusty environment, then it slowly declined to cardboard as tables with pure tatami mats then again declined to just over-the-neck type drawing boards. In order to upgrade their class and status, they have to fight other classes to exchange the facilities. Fight as in RPG-style of combat system, with SD characters of the students, with health points, attack points linked to the marks they get from their respective papers of individual subjects. A super intelligent girl, named Himeji Mizuki, who failed her entrance test due to her fever, landed herself into Class F, she was touched by Akihisa’s actions during the test and now she has a crush on him. Then another girl who was born in Germany, Shimada Minami also is in love with Akihisa, but she has pro-wrestling moves and is a heavy tsun. This results in a love triangle. Oh yeah about the combat system, those who’s HP runs out, will serve detention with supplementary lessons conducted by the worst teacher on Earth, but there are also “HP potions”, which they need to do exam papers to replenish their points. Akihisa also has a status, called Punishment Inspector, may sound pretty high-end, but actually, when his avatar gets damaged, he himself will also inflict damage also, so-called feedback. His friends are Sakamoto Yuji, the class prez, Tsuchiya Kouta, aka Voyeur/Muttsulini and also bishonen Kinoshita Hideyoshi, who most of the time gets treated as a girl due to his looks. All of them are all determined of getting the Class A’s facilities for the sake of their lives and also for a better studying environment. Throughout the year, they fought with many other classes and all won, but they did not exchange classrooms, as Yuji is “planting seeds”. Slowly it was time, to fight with Class A, and Yuji strategy was to use the other classes to fight with Class A as they all owned him a favor for not changing classrooms despite their defeat,
except for Class B, as they used Hideyoshi with his twin sibling Yuko’s voice to provoke Class B to fight with Class A. to make sure they run out of stamina and also to lower their points so that can have an easier fight, even tho their strategy was well planned, but they still failed to win, due to some miscalculations. But they rematched again, but they chose to not use that RPG style of warfare but instead used a gameshow-type of competition, one mistake means out. It was Akihisa vs Class A’s No.1, class rep and also Yuji’s overly clingy and obsessive childhood friend, Kirishima Shoko. And surprisingly, Akihisa won, but it wasnt a clean one, it was in exchange with Shoko’s and Yuji’s marriage papers. Akihisa requested for Mizuki’s retest as Akihisa thinks that she deserves a better environment and education, which was Class A. She reluctantly took the test as she thought that Akihisa doesnt want her anymore, but still in the end ended up back to Class F, why? She didnt write her name on the paper on purpose, rendering it invalid. So that is how S1 ended. As for S2? More Shoko X Yuji moments, and also more Hideyoshi cross dressing moments, but S2 isnt all fillers, but it has a proper storyline of its own.
The storyline is pretty legit, S1 is already good enough, but they broke barriers when the OVA and S2 came, it became way better. The ride is consistent, and nice, and pretty addictive, worth rewatching and rewatching again. Overall it didnt felt rushed and the ending is pretty much wrapped up nicely. This has the heaviest fanservice out of the three, has the most “gore” out of the three and also the longest series out of the three.
Art is again Silver Link, quality is pretty awesome already, at that point its only their 2nd and 3rd anime in their portfolio. Colors are vivid and animations are smooth and crisps and sharp. Character designs are pretty well done also.
Music is a mixed bag for me, S1 > OVA > S2, its a declining trend in my opinion. But the BGMs are all nice.
VAs is a really long list of legit, because it has a lot of characters in their list. Shimono Hiro, Harada Hitomi, MIzuhashi Kaori, Suzuki Tatsuhisa, Kato Emiri, Nanjo Yoshino, Terashima Takuma, Igarashi Hiromi, Okamoto Nobuhiko, Taketatsu Ayana, Inoue Kikuko. All of them did their job and well done.
Best gurl? Himeji of course, Hideyoshi a second, WAIT ITS YUKO. WTF THAT TRAP.
Rokujouma no Shinryakusha:
Baka to Test to Shokanjuu:
Story: 9/10 (S1), 8.5/10 (OVA), 9/10 (S2)
Music: 8/10 (S1), 7.5/10 (OVA), 7/10 (S2)
Best anime out of the three? I cant really pick, as all of them has their own pros and cons, and unique points that each other doesnt have. I highly recommend you guys to watch all of them, in fact, as they are all worth watching and also rewatching over and over again.
Thats all for today, see you guys tomorrow.
